Estimado Pastor Nelson Zavala,

Le hago llegar mis saludos y algunas reflexiones sobre las cuales nos honraría a los lectores y colaboradores de Gkillcity con sus comentarios.

Quisiera antes que nada anotar que trataré de no llover sobre mojado, no profundizar en aquello bien conocido, la bien merecida reputación del partido que lo auspicia, el PRE. Más bien quisiera ahondar en ciertas contradicciones irreconciliables entre las enseñanzas bíblicas y el respeto a las libertades que garantiza el Estado Laico.

Claramente usted es un adulto que ha decidido aceptar la propuesta del partido que le pertenece a la muy espiritual familia Bucaram y así representarlos con su candidatura presidencial. Como nunca vimos ángeles bajando del cielo a investirlo en esta misión tan sagrada –la búsqueda del poder político– debemos con sensatez aceptar aquello que nuestros ojos vieron, que usted fue investido para esta candidatura por una de las maquinarias electoreras más inmorales que este país conozca.

Y, harían falta muchísimas páginas para contar todas las historias de infamia de este grupo por el que hoy usted orgullosamente da la cara mientras nos predica de moral. Necesitaríamos un libro del tamaño de la santísima biblia para hacerlo. Precisamente esto me recuerda que sería mejor dejar de lado estos temas tan obvios y pasar a otros más profundos.

Pastor, empecemos por el principio, históricamente la iglesia evangélica ingresó desde los Estados Unidos a nuestro país gracias a la instauración del Estado Laico. Con el triunfo de la revolución liberal se separó al Estado de la Iglesia Católica declarando la libertad de culto en el Ecuador.

En 1896 los primeros misioneros evangélicos ingresaron a nuestro país y empezaron su labor evangelizadora. Hoy, ese mismo Estado Laico que les abrió las puertas les incomoda a aquellos grupos cristianos con fantasías autocráticas.

Esta visión problemática proviene desde los inicios del protestantismo, de hecho una de sus más importantes fuentes de inspiración es la dictadura teocrática de Calvino, un santurrón sanguinario. Debo decirlo, el Estado Laico deja de existir si se ve forzado a privilegiar ciertas preferencias religiosas por muy mayoritarias que sean. Nuestra constitución ya garantiza en igualdad la libertad de culto de todas y todos ¿o no? Me pregunto si usted no querrá –de casualidad– que instituyamos la doctrina de la trinidad en nuestra carta magna, o que decretemos que nuestro planeta es plano como creían los autores de la biblia.

Bueno, verá, muchas de las ideas que claramente enseña la biblia están en contradicción con valores del Estado Laico contemporáneo como la igualdad de género, el respeto de los derechos humanos, o la no-discriminación de las minorías (raciales, sexuales, etc.)

Así como no estoy de acuerdo con que, por ejemplo, algunos países islámicos legislen y actúen en función de los prejuicios religiosos de la mayoría de su población –persiguiendo a librepensadores, homosexuales, cristianos y miembros de otras religiones–, me opongo a que en el Ecuador de hoy un pretendido “García Moreno” evangélico fantasee con imponernos los prejuicios religiosos y morales de su antojadiza fe.

Un tema prominente en la agenda católica y evangélica es el de impedir que la mujer decida de manera soberana sobre su cuerpo, como si ella no fuera digna de ser dueña de sí misma. Se trata pues del debate entre los “pro-vida” y las “pro-elección”.

Le propongo tres argumentos claros para el debate desde una perspectiva pro-elección:

– El aborto es un tema de salud pública y debe ser discutido técnica y científicamente, no con moralinas vanas. Sigamos las recomendaciones de la OMS y tratemos con dignidad la vida de las mujeres que toman esta difícil decisión.

La criminalización el aborto no solo es altamente ineficaz (los países que lo castigan de hecho tienen las tasas de aborto más altas) sino que pone en riesgo la vida de la mujer al obligarla a acudir a servicios clandestinos.

– Sin duda el concepto de vida es complejo y merece debatirse. En todo caso hasta el día de hoy no existe prueba alguna de que haya ningún almita viviendo en el embrión, como sostienen los cristianos.

El aborto hasta antes del desarrollo del sistema nervioso no le genera ningún dolor al conjunto de células que conforman el embrión. Estas no tienen conciencia en absoluto ya que carecen de cerebro.

Lo ético y digno es que la mujer tenga el derecho de ser madre cuando sus circunstancias personales le permitan ejercer una maternidad responsable, y pueda brindar el amor y solvencia necesarias para afrontar este reto maravilloso.

Además –como dato adicional y para sorpresa de muchos– los niveles de delincuencia en una sociedad son proporcionales a los de la maternidad no deseada. O sea, según el estudio de Levitt y Dubner, autores de Freakonomics, muy comúnmente estos hijos no deseados crecen en hogares disfuncionales que los llevan a vidas delictivas. Luego la sociedad hunde a estas personas en la cárcel a la vez que empuja a más mujeres hacia la maternidad no deseada.

Se trata de un círculo vergonzoso de dolor humano del que los “pro-vida” se lavarán las manos.

– Ya que no existe prueba alguna de que el cuerpo de la mujer le pertenezca a ningún hombrecillo celestial, y es inmoral pretender que le pertenezca al Estado, en honor a la sensatez debemos afirmar que la mujer es dueña de su propio cuerpo y nadie tiene el derecho de legislarlo.

Como sabrá estas afirmaciones que he hecho provienen del campo de la ciencia y los derechos humanos. Veamos en todo caso, en contraposición, el evidente desprecio con que la biblia trata a la mujer.

En el capítulo 19 de Génesis, por ejemplo, se narra la extraña historia de Sodoma y Gomorra. Dos ángeles del Señor se le presentan a Lot para darle aviso de la condena divina sobre la ciudad. A continuación una serie de acciones brutales tienen lugar. El texto afirma que todos en la ciudad esperan que Lot saque a estos hombres de su hogar para sodomizarlos. Pues bien, a Lot no se le ocurre nada mejor que ofrecer a sus hijas a cambio. Leamos:

He aquí ahora tengo dos hijas que no han conocido varón; permitidme sacarlas a vosotros y haced con ellas como mejor os parezca; pero no hagáis nada a estos hombres, pues se han amparado bajo mi techo.

En el capítulo 19 del Libro de los Jueces se narra una historia muy similar, cuando para proteger a un sacerdote, un anciano “piadoso” ofrece a su hija y la concubina del sacerdote a la multitud. La multitud viola a las mujeres toda la noche y así se cuida la integridad del varón.

En todo caso, este desprecio por la mujer como un ser sumiso de segunda categoría se halla igualmente presente en el Nuevo Testamento. Leamos:

1 Timoteo 2:11: Que la mujer aprenda calladamente, con toda obediencia.
1 Corintios 14:34: Vuestras mujeres callen en las iglesias; porque no les es permitido hablar, sino que estén sujetas, como también la ley lo dice.

Otro tema que también obsesiona a los cristianos es el de la homosexualidad, y de hecho les aterra la posibilidad que una pareja homosexual monogámica pueda formalizar legalmente su amor en aquel contrato conocido como matrimonio. Me pregunto ahora qué hubiera pasado si la biblia hubiera sido escrita por mujeres, no me cabe duda que sería un libro menos violento.

Veamos el Libro de Levítico –otro texto tremendamente fundamentalista– que prohíbe comer crustáceos y ser gay, al tiempo que permite comprar esclavos de pueblos vecinos. Este versículo por ejemplo:

Levítico 20:13: Si alguien se acuesta con varón, como se hace con mujer, ambos han cometido abominación: morirán sin remedio; su sangre caerá sobre ellos.
Por otro lado el Nuevo Testamento no es diferente al respecto, incluso Pablo llega a condenar a los “afeminados”. Leamos:

1 Corintios 6:9: ¿O no sabéis que los injustos no heredarán el reino de Dios? No os dejéis engañar: ni los inmorales, ni los idólatras, ni los adúlteros, ni los afeminados, ni los homosexuales.

Pero, qué dice la ciencia al respecto: la homosexualidad es natural, mientras su homofobia Pastor Zavala es una enfermedad.

La evidencia es abundante y por ahora solo menciono un par de consideraciones.

El biólogo canadiense Bruce Bagemihl ha documentado hasta el momento la natural presencia de comportamiento homosexual, bisexual y transgénero en 1,500 especies animales.

Hace ya casi 40 años que la American Psychological Association y la American Psychiatric Association –debido a la clara evidencia– retiraron a la homosexualidad de la lista de desórdenes mentales, y admitieron que las razones por las cuales esta permaneció por tanto tiempo catalogada como una patología fue debido a “suposiciones no verificables basadas en normas sociales prevalecientes” (quizás instauradas en la cultura occidental por la intolerancia del machismo bíblico).

Un tema final que quisiera mencionar es el de la moral. Es una gran falacia que nuestra moral provenga de algún fundamento religioso ya que es parte de nuestra milenaria herencia genética, lo único “novedoso” que hizo la religión fue inventarse el escabroso modelo del miedo: castigo o recompensa, al que cínicamente la biblia llama “libre albedrío”. Sucede que si uno no elige lo que a dios le gusta (a Jesucristo como tu salvador) te encierran por la eternidad en un gran centro de torturas (que sería la envidia de la dictadura de Pinochet). Cómo se puede llamar a eso “libre albedrío” si de inicio a fin de las escrituras a uno lo pasan amenazando con chamuscarlo.

La verdadera moral humana no proviene del miedo a este tipo de castigos macabros, enfermizos. Entre otros, los estudios de Marc Hauser, biólogo de Harvard, y los de Richard Dawkins, catedrático de Oxford, han ahondado de manera exitosa en la explicación evolucionista de la moral humana, sin fantasmas ni cucos.

Hacia el mismo objetivo, y desde una perspectiva de la moral laica, con algo de humor crítico hace unos años el artista argentino León Ferrari le escribió una brillante carta al Papa instándole –ya que el pontífice ha abogado por la defensa de los derechos humanos– que no solo defienda esos principios en esta vida sino también en la siguiente. Ferrari insistía al Papa que por favor le pida a dios clausurar aquel vergonzoso centro de torturas eterno, el infierno.

Y usted estimado Nelson ¿qué piensa de la moral laica? ¿por qué las estadísticas demuestran que en los países donde la religión palidece sus ciudadanos son más tolerantes y menos violentos?

Entonces, Pastor Zavala, sabemos que con estos antivalores vergonzosos que la biblia celebra es que usted aspira a gobernar el Ecuador. Se lo digo claramente, que esas enseñanzas cristianas de odio sean populares no quiere decir que sean legítimas.
