Comunidad GLBTI exige reforma en Ley de Registro Civil

Movimientos que representan a la comunidad GLBTI (Gays, Lesbianas, Bisexuales, Transexuales e Intersexo), insistieron, ante la Asamblea Constituyente, una reforma en los artículos que asignan el sexo de las personas en la cédula de identidad.

Diane Rodríguez, de la agrupación Silueta X, opinó que la cédula solo debería incluir el lugar de nacimiento, número de identidad, huellas dactilares, nombres y apellidos, y asegura que el Estado “intenta invadir” la intimidad de las personas, “incluso la sexual, reconocida en la Constitución”.

Paola Pabón, asambleísta por Alianza País, apoyó el pedido y reconoció que el tema genera posturas divididas en la bancada, pero que como un grupo de oficialistas lo apoya. Pabón acogió el criterio de eliminar el nivel de instrucción en la cédula para que así todos estén en condiciones de igualdad.

Elizabeth Vásquez, coordinadora del Proyecto Transgénero, explicó que para evitar contradicciones se conserve el sexo en la partida de nacimiento, ya que “más confusión causa utilizar cédulas que no representan a las personas”.

GLBTI Community requires reform Civil Registration Act

Movements representing the GLBTI community (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex), insisted, to the Constituent Assembly, for a reform to the articles that establish the sex of the people in the identity card.

Diane Rodriguez, of the group Silueta X, said the card should only include the place of birth, identity number, fingerprints, names, and ensures that the state “invades” the privacy of individuals, “even the sexual one, recognized in the Constitution. ”

Paola Pabon, Assembly member of  Alianza Pais, endorsed the request and acknowledged that the issue generates divided positions on the bench, but the ruling group supports it. Pabon hosted the criteria to eliminate the level of education on the identity card, so that all are equal.

Elizabeth Vasquez, Transgender Project Coordinator, explained that to avoid contradictions, the sex should be determined in the birth certificate, as “it is more confusing to use identity cards  that do not represent the people.”
