Presidente de Ecuador se reúne con miembros de la comunidad LGBT.
La comunidad LGBT de Ecuador catalogó como un momento histórico la reunión que mantuvieron sus dirigentes y activistas con el presidente Rafael Correa, el pasado viernes en Guayaquil.
A través de un comunicado, el colectivo, agrupado en la Asoaciación Silueta X y el observatorio GLBTI, sostuvo que la primera reunión con un mandatario es un momento histórico en la reivindicación de los derechos humanos de ese sector de la población.
En su informe semanal, el presidente Correa hizo una reseña de la reunión, a la que calificó de “muy importante” y adelantó que el Gobierno no permitirá la discriminación a las personas LGBT pues la Constitución garantiza la igualdad de los derechos y sanciona la discriminación por preferencias sexuales.
Explicó que la reunión con el colectivo LGBT se dio para buscar estrategias que concienticen a la sociedad en el respeto hacia estos grupos y la promoción mediática de sus derechos.
“Estos grupos tienen derechos, ya esos derechos están formalizados en la ley y en la Constitución, pero en la práctica todavía enfrentan graves problemas de discriminación a nivel laboral, educacional, de salud, muchas veces no son atendidos, y no permitiremos esa clase de discriminación”, advirtió el jefe de Estado.
El mandatario expuso que, entre otros datos, hay 15 asesinatos a miembros de la comunidad LGBT que no están resueltos y manifestó que hay funcionarios públicos que no entienden esto.
“No se puede expulsar a nadie de un colegio por pertenecer al colectivo LGBT” dijo el presidente Correa y añadió que hay muchos empleadores que no afilian al Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social (IESS) a los empleados que pertenecen a este grupo.
Pese a la apertura, Correa reiteró su oposición al matrimonio igualitario pues sostuvo que esta figura no les otorga ningún derecho adicional.
El colectivo LGBT, detalló que la reunión con el mandatario se concretó gracias al puente que hizo la presidenta de la Asociación Silueta X, Diane Rodriguez.
Rodríguez, quien en las pasadas elecciones fue la primera candidata a legisladora por los grupos LGBT, ha mostrado un acercamiento con el gobierno de Rafael Correa en algunos temas, pero mantiene una crítica constructiva en otros.

The LGBT community of Ecuador cataloged as a historic moment the meeting between their leaders and activists with President Rafael Correa, last Friday in Guayaquil.
Through a statement, the group, clustered in Asoaciación Silueta X and GLBTI observatory, said the first meeting with an agent is a historic moment in the vindication of human rights in that sector of the population.
In its weekly report, President Correa gave an overview of the meeting, which he described as «very important» and said that the government will not allow discrimination to LGBT people because the Constitution guarantees equal rights and sanction discrimination by sexual preferences.
He explained that the meeting with the LGBT community has made to find strategies that concienticen society in respect to these groups and the media to promote their rights.
«These groups have rights, and these rights are formalized in the law and the Constitution, but in practice still face serious discrimination, education, labor, health status, often are not served, and we will not allow that kind of discrimination, «said the head of state.
The president stated that, among other data, there are 15 murders members of the LGBT community who are unresolved and said there are civil servants who do not understand this.
«You can not remove someone from a school for belonging to the LGBT community,» said President Correa added that there are many employers who do not join the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS) to employees who belong to this group.
Despite the opening, Correa reiterated his opposition to gay marriage argued that because this figure does not give them any additional rights.
The LGBT community, explained that the meeting with the president was completed thanks to the bridge that made the president of the Association Silueta X, Diane Rodriguez.
Rodriguez, who in the last election was the first legislator candidate for LGBT groups, has shown a rapprochement with the government of Rafael Correa on some issues, but maintains a constructive criticism in others.
