Su oficina es el retrato vivo de la intensidad de su lucha: el celular a la mano, dos computadoras encendidas, una pila de libros, unas banderas del movimiento gay mundial, un conjunto de fotos de  sus actividades, incluida una donde aparece como ángel, y la cartera donde le es difícil  encontrar un papel o su pasaporte.

Posee ese olfato político para apuntalar acciones concretas sin riesgo deperder o ser vencida. En casi dos horas de conversación con el autor de este artículo y la editora de Sociedad, Karla Pesantes, aflora toda su personalidad, su pasado más combativo y una luz en sus ojos que permite vislumbrar cómo quiere ver a su comunidad en los próximo años.

Su risa chillona, a veces, desata alegrías en plena conversación. No es una activista ortodoxa y deja en claro (en la mirada, en las manos, en toda su gestualidad) que goza de esta lucha, pero la goza sufriendo y alcanzando pequeñas victorias. ¿La más importante? La suya consigo misma, con su madre y con su pareja (un hombre que la ama como mujer y asume todas las complejidades de una relación heterosexual clásica).

No hay duda de que la adversidad genera y proyecta los mejores talentos de los seres humanos. Y en el caso de Diane Rodríguez es evidente el sentido estratégico de la política. En otras palabras: ganar lo más posible con el menor costo. Y además: alcanzar metas posibles en condiciones concretas, sin idealismos vacuos.

Diane no es ajena a su historia. Tiene claro que con  Nebot no hay puntos de coincidencia.Claro, algunos de sus críticos consideran que Diane ha cedido porque no se alcanzó lo más importante (según ellos): el matrimonio gay. Pero ella cree que el avance que se ha dado es importante, como lo explica en la entrevista que se publica en esta edición.

En por lo menos una docena de veces cataloga la reunión con el presidente Rafael Correa como histórica y en otras tantas la menciona para explicar cómo ocurrió: “La noche anterior no pude dormir. Me desperté como a las cinco de la mañana pensando qué iba a decir… Y esa noche, luego del encuentro, pude dormir temprano y contenta”.

Sin decirlo (o entre líneas) asume la reunión como una victoria política personal que ni el triunfo en las elecciones para asambleísta le habría dado tanto alegría. Menciona que haberse reunido con Correa le cambió la percepción y la misma imagen del Primer Mandatario. Aunque no coincide en todo con él, cree que es un hombre que ha hecho mucho por el país y ahora también por la comunidad GLBTI.

Deja entrever las diferencias con Ruptura de los 25, la organización con la que participó en los comicios del 17 de febrero pasado. No se siente utilizada por esa organización, pero sí cree que sus propuestas no tuvieron la mejor acogida  y que, sobre todo, no la consideraron parte importante de la propaganda y publicidad. Quizá por eso hizo sus propios spots, que en las redes tuvieron más acogida que los de otros candidatos.

Diane sabe en qué país actúa y lucha. No es ajena a su historia y a las diversidades de la misma nación. Por eso, cuando se le pregunta si el movimiento feminista ayudó o perjudicó al movimiento GLBTI se detiene a reflexionar y modera su respuesta. Asume que hay diferencias y no precisamente acuerdos mayores para coordinar acciones.

Pero sí tiene claro que en esa diversidad y complejidad política, con Jaime Nebot no hay puntos de coincidencia. Que si el alcalde guayaquileño les invita a conversar irán, pero ven eso como una posibilidad muy lejana. Y no se trata, afirma, de un asunto personal sino de que en Guayaquil no hay políticas públicas ni acciones y mucho menos ofrecimientos a favor de su comunidad. Todo lo contrario, es un espacio para la discriminación, acota.

Por lo pronto sabe que la lucha es larga, que no va a ser trascendental el matrimonio igualitario porque ahora hay demandas mucho más urgentes. ¿Cuáles? Por ejemplo, dice, que en el Seguro Social se reconozca la posibilidad de acceder a un crédito hipotecario y que el sistema acepte que una pareja homosexual se inscriba. Y como esa lucha es larga, Diane Rodríguez tiene que prepararse y se nota que se forma académicamente, pero en lo esencial su pensamiento está en la política, no en la partidista, sino en la que alcanza metas concretas sin cálculos ni concesiones.

Su lucha, por lo pronto, ha instalado en el imaginario ecuatoriano a un nuevo y activo actor: el movimiento GLBTI. En adelante, con todas las contradicciones propias, ese movimiento, para ella, debe discutir y reflexionar más, pero sobre todo sentirse más solidario con sus propias causas. Claro, la violencia simbólica de muchos años no puede solo ser parte de su lucha, sino la de todo el país para que sea efectiva la inclusión.

A strong fighter who used the strategic sense of political

His office is the picture of the intensity of their struggle : the cell at hand, two lighted computer , a stack of books , a world cup flags gay movement, a set of photos of their activities , including where it appears as an angel , and wallet where it is difficult to find a role or passport.
It has that smell to bolster political concrete actions deperder without risk or be defeated . In nearly two hours of conversation with the author of this article and the editor of Society , Karla Pesantes , emerges whole personality , his combative past and a light in his eyes that allows a glimpse of how the community wants to see in the coming years .

Your shrill laughter sometimes unleashes joys in conversation . There is an Orthodox activist and makes clear ( in his eyes , hands , in all their gestures ) enjoying this fight , but enjoys suffering and achieving small victories . Is the most important? Theirs herself, with her mother and her partner ( a man who loves her as a woman and assumes all the complexities of a classic heterosexual relationship) .

There is no doubt that adversity creates and projects the best talent in humans. And in the case of Diane Rodriguez is clear strategic direction of policy. In other words : win as much as possible at the lowest cost . In addition: achieving goals in specific terms possible without vacuous idealism .

Diane is no stranger to history. Nebot is clear that with no points coincidencia.Claro , some critics believe that Diane has given was not reached because the most important ( according to them) : gay marriage. But she believes that the progress that has occurred is important, as explained in the interview published in this edition.

In at least a dozen times catalogs the meeting with President Rafael Correa as historic and as many mentions to explain how it happened : » Last night I could not sleep . I woke up like five in the morning thinking what to say … And that night, after the meeting , I could sleep early and happy. «

Without saying (or inline ) takes the meeting as a personal political victory or triumph in the election for Assemblyman would have given him so much joy . He mentions that he met with Correa changed the perception and the very image of Chief Executive . Although not all agree with him, thinks he’s a man who has done much for the country and now the GLBTI community.

Suggests differences with rupture of the 25 , the organization that participated in the elections of 17 February. It does not feel used by the organization, but he does believe that their proposals did not have the best reception and that, above all , not considered important part of advertising and publicity . Maybe that’s why he made his own spots , that networks were more welcome than other candidates.

Diane know which country acts and fights . It is alien to its history and diversity of the same nation . So , when asked if the feminist movement helped or hurt the movement stops to think GLBTI and moderates their response. Assume that there are differences and not just older agreements to coordinate actions .

But it is clear that in this diversity and political complexity , with Jaime Nebot no common ground . That if they Guayaquil mayor invited to discuss Iran, but see that as a very remote possibility. And it is said , of a personal matter but that in no Guayaquil public policies or actions and offers much less for their community. On the contrary , it is a space for discrimination , he notes .

For now know that the fight is long, it will not be momentous marriage equality because now there are more pressing demands. What ? For example , he says, that Social Security ‘s ability to access a mortgage is recognized and accepted by the system that enrolls a homosexual couple . And that struggle is long, Diane Rodriguez has to be prepared and it shows that way academically, but essentially his thinking is on the political , not partisan , but in reaching specific goals without calculation or concessions.

Their struggle , for one, is installed on the Ecuadorian imaginary to a new and active actor: the GLBTI movement. Henceforth, all the contradictions , the movement , for her , discuss and reflect more , but mostly feel more solidarity with their own causes. Sure, the symbolic violence of many years can not just be part of their struggle , but of the whole country to be effective inclusion.
