Unión de hecho del mismo sexo se reconocerá como estado civil.

Desde el próximo 15 de septiembre la unión de hecho entre personas del mismo sexo será un estado civil en la cédula de identidad ecuatoriana.  Para comenzar, se efectuará en las agencias de Guayaquil, Quito y Cuenca. Posteriormente se desplegará a las demás a nivel nacional.

Esto se da luego de que el 23 de agosto el presidente Rafael Correa anunciara durante su cadena sabatina que “los colectivos GLBTI (gays, lesbianas, bisexuales, transexuales e intersexuales) tienen todo el derecho constitucional de registrar en su cédula su unión de hecho”.
