Ya han pasado dos meses desde que Juan Carlos Alcívar cambió su nombre por el de Chany. Lo hizo por el deseo aquel de identificación. Por ese “bichito” que había dentro de él y le impulsaba a sentirse mujer. Es que al final Juan Carlos nunca fue Juan Carlos, siempre quiso ser Chany.

Y así ocurrió que se cambió la identidad, y luego de un año de trámites le entregaron la cédula con su nuevo nombre. Cuando pasó a llamarse Chany Elizabeth Alcívar Véliz y empezó a exigirle al mundo que la tratara como mujer.
 Minutos antes de estas revelaciones, Chany estaba lista para escuchar una charla sobre la propuesta de cambiar la palabra “sexo” por “género” en las cédulas. Una lucha de sus compañeras para que se reconozcan los derechos del grupo Glbti (Gays, lesbianas, bisexuales, transgéneros, transexuales e intersexuales).
Es que esas letritas, la “M” o “F”, como que incomodan en el documento. Y la propuesta es que allí se registre el  género. Pero eso es otro asunto. Chany está hablando de su renacimiento. Porque cambiar de identidad es volver a nacer. “Te conviertes en alguien nuevo, porque debes cambiar toda tu vida, porque de un momento a otro dejas de existir y luego ya eres otra persona, pero es satisfactorio lograr aquello”, expresa.
Después de que obtuvo el documento Chany envió comunicados a los bancos para que registren su nueva identidad.
Se dedicó a buscar su partida de nacimiento para que hasta en ese documento la registren con nombre de mujer. “Es un trámite largo, pero cuando uno ya lo logra es muy bonito”, indica.
En Manta hay unas 15 transexuales que han realizado el mismo trámite de Chany. Ellas ya tienen sus cédulas con nombres de mujer.
Estos cambios empezaron luego de una reforma realizada en la Ley del Registro Civil Identificación y Cedulación.
Más de su vida. Chany habla de su vida como si contara el final de una novela. Los detalles no faltan. En su rostro con poco maquillaje se nota la gesticulación en cada frase.
Dice que ha gastado mucho dinero en convertirse en mujer, unos cuatro mil dólares más o menos. “Ya tengo pompis y chichis”, expresa mientras señala su pecho. Eso es parte de su cambio.
Porque la cédula es un primer paso, que te reconozca la gente como una mujer es lo que sigue, agrega.
Es que en algunas ocasiones, cuando va a los bancos y se coloca en la fila de las mujeres, hay guardias que le piden que se retire de allí. “Es en ese momento cuando les enseño mi cédula y les digo que tengo nombre de mujer y deben tratarme como tal. La gente se queda sorprendida, porque creo que pocos saben aquello”, expresa.
Chany sabe un poco de leyes, especialmente las que protegen sus derechos. Conoce las reformas que han beneficiado a su gremio, de los cambios que vienen, e incluso resalta que tienen todo el apoyo del presidente Rafael Correa para lograr sus objetivos. Cuenta que lo que han ganado es un avance significativo. Así haya que empezar una nueva vida. Así tengan que volver a nacer.
