Sustainability X: social justice and environmental responsibility move together

Asociación Silueta X is turning a long-standing institutional commitment to environmental protection into a practical, measurable system for reducing waste, using resources responsibly and extending a culture of sustainability to our staff, volunteers, service users, partners, suppliers and allied organizations.

We are starting with actions we can actually sustain — and measuring them so that small changes can become permanent institutional practice.

Our environmental principle

“We are not trying to look sustainable. We are building habits that make us more responsible.”

Sustainability X is adopted as an institutional policy from the date of publication and is implemented progressively across activities, offices, programs and events directly managed by Asociación Silueta X.

Why this matters to partners and funders

Sustainability is also a question of institutional credibility.

Organizations working for human rights also consume paper, electricity, water, equipment and materials. Environmental responsibility begins by acknowledging that reality and managing it more carefully.

Governance Environmental commitments are incorporated into institutional management instead of remaining informal intentions.
Measurability We begin with a small set of indicators that can actually be monitored and reported.
Multiplier effect Practices are extended beyond our offices to users, partner organizations, entrepreneurs and companies.

Sustainability X does not add an unrelated environmental agenda to our organization. It operationalizes a responsibility already included in Silueta X’s institutional purpose.

Institutional Purpose

Article 5 expressly connects the Association’s work on rights, health and vulnerable populations with environmental conservation.

Sustainability X turns that statutory mandate into current procedures, measurable commitments and a culture of environmental responsibility within the organization.

We prioritize digital files, forms, communications, certificates, drafts and archives whenever printing is not legally or operationally required.

Separate at source

Clearly identified containers facilitate separation of recyclable materials from non-recoverable waste at the point where waste is generated.

Technology with purpose

Using AI to reduce physical processes — without pretending digital technology has no footprint

We use digital and artificial-intelligence tools when they can reduce unnecessary printing, repeated physical drafts, paperwork, avoidable travel or other material processes.

Our approach

We do not describe AI or digitalization as environmentally impact-free. Digital infrastructure also requires energy and physical resources.

Our commitment is to use technology responsibly when it creates genuine efficiency and replaces avoidable material consumption.

Effective from publication

The 12 Sustainability X commitments

We deliberately chose measures that are simple enough to maintain. Environmental policies only matter when institutions can keep implementing them.

01 · Digital before paper We print only when there is a genuine legal, administrative or operational need.
02 · Digital forms and signatures Registration, forms and signatures are digital whenever legally and operationally possible.
03 · Separate waste Waste is separated at the source through clearly identified containers.
04 · Keep e-waste separate Batteries, cables, devices and electronic accessories do not enter ordinary waste streams.
05 · Fewer disposables We avoid single-use cups, plates, cutlery, bottles and similar items whenever reasonable reusable alternatives exist.
06 · Responsible energy use Lights, air conditioning and equipment are switched off when not required, and energy-saving functions are used where available.
07 · Responsible water use We prevent unnecessary consumption, address leaks when identified and promote practical water-saving habits.
08 · Buy with environmental criteria Where cost and availability allow, we prefer durable, reusable, repairable, recycled, locally sourced or lower-packaging products.
09 · Lower-waste events Registrations, invitations, programs and supporting material use digital or QR formats whenever appropriate.
10 · Smarter mobility Virtual or hybrid meetings are used when physical travel adds no essential value.
11 · Teach what we practice We share accessible environmental habits with service users, volunteers, organizations and business partners.
12 · Measure to improve We track a small number of environmental indicators so that future decisions are based on evidence.

Alignment is not certification

Asociación Silueta X does not claim ISO certification through this program. These standards are used as voluntary references for good environmental-management practices and progressive institutional improvement.

We do not need one hundred indicators to start measuring responsibly

The first phase establishes a baseline. Future reduction targets will be based on actual data rather than aspirational numbers.

Environmental responsibility should not stop at the door of an NGO. Cámara Plus Ecuador helps connect the program with entrepreneurs, businesses, suppliers, tourism actors and other members of the productive sector.

Commitment, not certification: Green Commitment X is a voluntary pledge to adopt basic practices. It is not an environmental certification and does not replace independent technical assessment.

Events can create less waste too

Digital registration Online registration, confirmation and participant lists whenever possible.

Environmental transparency

We do not confuse small actions with solving the environmental crisis

Recycling, printing less or switching off a light does not automatically make an institution “green.” These are practical steps inside a wider process of responsibility, measurement and continual improvement.

Our anti-greenwashing commitment

We do not claim carbon neutrality, zero environmental impact, certifications we do not hold or reductions we have not measured.

We communicate what we are implementing, identify what remains to be improved and use evidence to strengthen future commitments.

The institutional commitments of Sustainability X formally enter into effect.

The foundations of Sustainability X

Sustainability X

We do not have to become a large environmental institution before we start making better environmental decisions.

We can reduce unnecessary printing, separate waste, choose materials more carefully, use less energy and water, prepare for climate disruption and teach these habits to the communities around us today.

With sustained support, small operational decisions become institutional culture — and institutional culture can influence entire networks.

Donations support Asociación Silueta X’s broader public-interest, community and sustainability work.

Statutory foundation: environmental conservation forms part of the institutional purpose established in Article 5 of Asociación Silueta X’s statutes. Sustainability X operationalizes that mandate through environmental practices applicable to current institutional management.

Effective date: practices described as Sustainability X commitments are adopted as institutional policy from publication and implemented progressively according to the organization’s material and operational capacity.

ISO references: references to ISO 14001:2026, ISO 14031:2021 and ISO 14090:2019 represent voluntary alignment with environmental-management principles and good practices. They do not constitute or imply ISO certification of Asociación Silueta X.

Technology and artificial intelligence: Silueta X uses digital tools when they can improve efficiency and reduce selected physical processes. We recognize that digital infrastructure also carries environmental impacts and do not present digitalization as having a zero environmental footprint.

Environmental transparency: Sustainability X does not claim carbon neutrality, zero waste or environmental results that have not been measured. Our approach is to act, document, evaluate and improve progressively.

Partnership: Sustainability X is developed with the support of Cámara Plus Ecuador to extend practical environmental responsibility toward entrepreneurs, businesses and other allied actors.

Donor transparency: support for this program helps sustain environmental management, education, monitoring and institutional improvement. Donation messaging does not change the standards used to report environmental progress.
