A permanent identity
Procesión Trans is the public evolution of Trans Pride Ecuador.
The documented history of Trans Pride Ecuador begins in 2021 with a public gathering, street mobilization, and TransFest organized around three pillars: decriminalization, national recognition of sexual and gender diversity, and remembrance of trans people killed by violence.
Since 2025, the name Procesión Trans — Trans Pride Ecuador has deepened that identity: a movement that goes beyond a parade and brings memory, grief, rights, justice, culture, and pride together in a collective public act with its own history.
Trans · Nonbinary · Gender-Diverse
Trans Pride Ecuador is intentionally broader than the gender binary.
Procesión Trans centers trans, nonbinary, and gender-diverse people and welcomes the many ways people name and live their genders. We do not assume that every nonbinary person identifies as trans; self-identification belongs to each person.
This inclusive language is consistent with contemporary Trans Pride organizing in the United States, where leading events explicitly center trans, nonbinary, gender-diverse, and gender-expansive communities while preserving “Trans Pride” as the movement’s public name.
Trans November
November is not a single date. It is memory, history, and action.
Procesión Trans is rooted in an Ecuadorian cycle of remembrance and rights that connects international and national milestones without reducing the movement to a competition over dates.

Decriminalization in Ecuador
The constitutional decision published on November 27, 1997 struck down the provision that criminalized consensual same-sex relations. It remains a central date in the history of LGBTQ+ rights in Ecuador.

In 2016, Ecuador’s National Assembly declared November 27 the annual National Day of Sexual and Gender Diversity (Día de la Diversidad Sexo-Genérica), linking the national calendar to the memory of decriminalization.

Trans Pride Ecuador takes to the streets
The 2021 manifesto brought together three demands: commemorating the 1997 decriminalization, affirming the National Day of Sexual and Gender Diversity, and demanding rights in memory of trans people killed by violence. The day included a public gathering, street mobilization, and the first TransFest in Guayaquil.

25 years since decriminalization
The second documented edition continued Trans Pride, the public gathering, and TransFest, marking 25 years since decriminalization and linking trans remembrance with resilience in the face of transfemicide.
2025 · identity evolves
Procesión Trans — Trans Pride Ecuador
The movement publicly adopted the name Procesión Trans while preserving Trans Pride Ecuador as its historical continuity. The edition connected grief, justice, decriminalization, culture, and community presence in public space.

From its founding edition, Trans Pride Ecuador connected public demands with the documentation of violence carried out by Asociación Silueta X’s Runa Sipiy Observatory. Procesión Trans preserves that relationship between public memory, evidence, and the demand for justice.
