Diane Rodríguez, activista transexual y ex candidata a asambleísta, asistió ayer al primer cambio de guardia del nuevo mandato presidencial en Carondelet.

Lo hizo en momentos en que el presidente Rafael Correa ha expresado su negativa a las reformas a la Ley del Registro Civil y el  matrimonio igualitario.

Rodríguez aseguró que la invitación le fue cursada hace más de un mes y descartó  que se trate de una estrategia política por parte del Gobierno para calmar los ánimos de la comunidad GLBTI.

“Fui y le pedí una reunión. Él estuvo de acuerdo y pidió que me pusieran en agenda;  ahora espero que me llamen para confirmarla. Ahí podré explicarle que el cambio de género en la cédula no tiene nada que ver con el matrimonio”, detalló.

La activista señaló que seguirá buscando acercamientos a través del diálogo y que evitará confrontaciones. Mientras que, paralelamente, Pamela Troya, coordinadora de la agrupación ¡Igualdad de Derechos, Ya!, dijo que se plantea la posibilidad de acudir a la Corte Constitucional para que dirima si se da paso al matrimonio de personas del mismo sexo en Ecuador.

“Los derechos humanos no pueden someterse a consulta popular. En ese sentido, ningún colectivo, ni los activistas estaríamos a favor de que se sometan esos derechos a consulta y que sea una mayoría la que escoja el derecho de la minoría”, dijo en declaraciones a una radio.

Diane Rodriguez, transgender activist and former candidate for Assemblyman, yesterday attended the first change of guard at Carondelet new presidential term.

He did it at a time when President Rafael Correa has expressed its refusal to reform the Civil Registration Act and marriage equality.

Rodriguez said he was relayed the invitation over a month ago and denied that it is a political strategy by the government to calm things GLBTI community.

«I went and asked for a meeting. He agreed and asked me to put on the agenda, now hopefully I call to confirm. Here I will explain that changing gender card has nothing to do with marriage, «he explained.

The activist said, will continue to seek approaches through dialogue and avoid confrontation. While parallel, Pamela Troy, coordinator of the group Equal Rights Now!, Said that there is the possibility of going to the Constitutional Court to adjudicate if it leads to the marriage of persons of the same sex in Ecuador.

«Human rights can not be subject to referendum. In that sense, any group, nor the activists would be in favor of these rights are subject to consultation and is a majority which chooses the right of the minority, «he said in remarks to a radio.
